Memphis, Tennessee Aug 20, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - The National Action Network (NAN) West Tennessee Memphis Chapter, led by Rev. AL Sharpton nationally and local members are proud to announce that Memphis will send a delegation to the March on Wall Street in New York City on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
The Memphis Freedom Bus will depart on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from Centenary United Methodist Church, 584 E. McLemore Ave, Memphis, TN 38106. Riders and community members will gather for check in and media coverage beginning at 10:00 am in the E.J. Cox Room, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. met with civil rights leaders on April 3, 1964, to announce his plans to lead a mass march on April 8, 1968.
On August 28, 2025, we will gather in New York City for the March on Wall Street a united call for economic justice and equal opportunity for all. This is a pivotal moment to stand together, raise our voices, and make our presence felt in one of the most influential financial centers in the world. To ensure broad participation, buses will be departing from multiple locations across the country.
This is about connecting our history to our present struggles, said Martese Chism, Secretary of NAN West Tennessee Memphis local chapter. From the ports where our enslaved ancestors were sold to the financial centers that profited from their labor, we will make it clear freedom and justice are still worth fighting for.
The march will begin at the African Burial Ground and end on Wall Street, highlighting the economic injustices that continue to impact Black communities today.
